Savannah was just how it looked in the movies. Spanish moss hanging off every tree, town squares with a statue in the center every couple blocks, brick streets, fountains, gardens. We walked around the town and along the river front during the day and then went back at night for a ghost tour. This was a really cool way to experience another side of the city and learn some of the lesser known stories and history.
We were so thrilled to have our schedule line up to make it to my cousin/dear friend Chandler’s graduation from Army Airborne school in Ft. Benning, GA. We watched the ceremony with my aunt and uncle and had a great dinner with all of them, followed by a trip to a local bar. Very fun.
In Knoxville, we stayed with our friend Chris Hughes and he showed us around the Great Smoky Mountains. The landscape there is incredible, and it was the perfect time for the fall leaves. On Halloween, we went to a haunted cornfield maze, which was certainly the most unique Halloween experience I’ve ever had.
We also got to explore Nashville and Memphis for a day each. It was really cool to sit in a downtown Nashville bar, drink beer and listen to a live country band. In Memphis, we took a trolley to Sun Studio, and stood on the exact same floor tiles where Elvis recorded his first song (and later Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and many others).
We crossed over the Mississippi River for the second time on this trip, heading West now.
